Respawn Entertainment has announced that it’s removing Titanfall from storefronts and digital subscription services. This means that it’ll be removed from EA Play and Game Pass by March 1, 2022, and it’s likely already gone from the Microsoft Store. This is a golden opportunity for you to pick up an iconic piece of shooter history and play it while it’s getting a bit of new life breathed into it. You see, when developers tell fans that they’re removing a game or are at least pulling accessibility, it gets an influx of new people coming in to check out what it’s like today. This is what will happen with Titanfall, and you should do your best to get in on it now.
Titanfall will still be live and available for anyone who owns a copy. I think this includes those who buy a physical disc, but I can’t confirm that for certain. What I do know, is that you can continue to play the game if you’ve paid for a copy of it, so if you’re reading this after the fact and want to get in on it, go and find a cheap second-hand copy. The game is going to have at least some players for a while yet, so it’s probably worth getting into whenever you realise it’s there.
Titanfall is a multiplayer-only always-online game. It launched at a time when the world was not very friendly to that idea, and loads of people, including myself, kicked off about it. The issue was that we weren’t used to games requiring us to always be online. With terrible internet in my area at the time, I hated the idea of being locked into a game that I’d struggle with just because of something I had no control over. I’m not joking that I couldn’t even get online when it was raining. However, Titanfall is now a part of history, a pioneer in some ways, even though it’s had a pretty rough past. I’m certainly going to be jumping back into it while it’s still live on Game Pass, and I suggest that you do the same if you want to experience it for yourself.
