Nintendo claims its platforms have the most 'great games'

Over the weekend, Nintendo of America revealed an intriguing infographic that suggests the company’s consoles boast a stronger lineup of games than those of the PS4 and Xbox One.

The image, posted on the company’s Twitter account, shows a list of games that have been released on current Nintendo platforms – Wii U and 3DS – as of December 19 of this year.

Nintendo revealed that in this console generation, they published 19 games that hold a score of 85 or higher, both from critics and users, on the game review aggregator, Metacritic. This number is portrayed in contrast to only eight games of the same criteria on all other consoles.

Nintendo’s 3DS has been on the market since the spring of 2011, giving it considerably more time than the Wii U for developers to create stellar experiences, such as The Legend of Zelda: Link Between Worlds, Pokemon X & Y, and Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

Considering that the Wii U is being heavily outsold by both the PS4 and Xbox One, it’s impressive that it’s amassed such a collection of top-notch games up to this point, including Mario Kart 8, Super Mario 3D World, and Super Smash Bros – which Metacritic named as the best game of 2014.

Many fans and critics have cried out for Nintendo to move on from the Wii U and release a more competitive console into the market. While the Wii U is unlikely to catch up to the number of units shipped by its competitors, it’s clear Nintendo is not giving up, and is willing to invest heavily into creating an excellent first party library for those on its consoles.

Well they do have better games for now. Not sure how long that will last though. Even if it does: they may have a pretty good line up in 2015 but let’s see if they can compete for mindshare with the marketing budgets of the other publishers.
