Minecraft Name Changes Date Announced

Minecraft developer Mojang has today announced it will be allowing PC players to change their in-game name for the first time.

From February 4, users will be able to edit their alias to a name of their choosing, providing it hasn’t already been taken; the first time the hit sandbox game has allowed them to do so in the six years since its original release.

According to a developer blog post, players will only be allowed to change their name once every 30 days, and name-changing won’t allow them to escape server bans for misdemeanours.

According to Mojang’s Nathan Adams, better known to Minecraft fans as Dinnerbone, the usernames of old unpaid accounts, which in many cases have been sitting dormant for years, will be freed up on February 4:
