The Game Awards 2016: Overwatch Named Game of the Year

Overwatch

After an evening full of new game reveals, awards, and – what else – live rap performances, the official results for The Game Awards 2016 Game of the Year have been revealed: Overwatch has taken the prestigious title as the best game of 2016.

Selected by a jury made up of 29 prominent global gaming outlets, Blizzard’s team-based hero shooter also triumphed in three other categories, including best e-sports game, best multiplayer game and best game direction.

Overwatch beat out stiff competition from the likes of Titanfall 2, Inside, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Doom to take the title of Game of the Year.

Game director Jeff Kaplan accepted the award at the Microsoft Theatre in LA on behalf of the studio, paying tribute to the entire Overwatch development team, and promising that they “aren’t done yet”.
