The upcoming Nintendo Switch looks like it will do away with using a proprietary charger in favour of including a USB-C connector.
The news comes following the console’s debut on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night, in which Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé played through a short section of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Eagle-eyed viewers spotted what undoubtedly appears to be a USB-C connector on a close-up of the Switch, confirming a leak earlier in the week via EB Games Australia. The retailer had listed a “USB-A to USB-C Charging Cable compatible with the Nintendo Switch Console” product in its online catalogue.
Furthermore, it also appears that another unannounced feature was confirmed during Fils-Aimé’s appearance. When the executive undocked the console to play Zelda, its screen seemed to turn on automatically – a nifty feature that fits in with the Switch’s portability ethos.
