Resident Evil 7 Will Be Hardest Game in the Series; Developer Focusing More on ‘Aspect of Fear’

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard will be more difficult than previous entries in the survival horror series, according to its lead game designer.

Speaking to Xbox: The Official Magazine for its January 2017 edition, Capcom’s Hajime Horiuchi said: “The difficulty being a little higher than in previous titles is definitely intentional.

“We wanted to focus more on the aspect of fear. We worried that if the game’s too easy and these enemy encounters aren’t too big of a deal then players aren’t going to feel that tension, not going to feel that anxiety. We wanted to make sure that even if you’re pitted up in a one versus one situation, that one enemy is capable of killing you.”

Horiuchi’s comments follows those of executive producer Jun Takeuchi, who last month spoke at length about the title’s scalable and adaptive difficulty.

Resident Evil 7 is scheduled to release on Xbox One, PC and PS4 on January 24, 2017. It will also include PlayStation VR support, where it is playable from start to finish in virtual reality.
