Last week, Nintendo unveiled the official packaging for its Switch games – a narrow case not dissimilar to those used by Sony for the PSP’s UMDs.
However, the smaller surface area of the box means there is less room for each title’s cover art. Normally, this wouldn’t be an issue, but in the case of of Germany, its ratings board – the USK – dictates that its certification label must remain the same size and prominence regardless of the size of the media in question.
This has had a particularly nasty effect on the upcoming Switch version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which has seen Nintendo being forced to redesign the open world RPG’s box art – and subsequently squash the game’s logo and title – onto one side to make room for the USK certification label.
The change hasn’t been met well by German fans of the series, with many taking to social media to claim they’d be looking to pick up the UK or French release of the title instead.
