New Mass Effect: Andromeda Trailers Introduce Core Crew Members, New Adversary

More information about Bioware’s upcoming sci-fi RPG, Mass Effect: Andromeda, surfaced earlier today – courtesy of two new trailers. They shed some more light on the Pathfinder program, the Andromeda Initiative’s immediate threat and Ryder’s initial crew members.

The main cinematic trailer shows a member of the Kett race as your main enemy. Calling himself Archon, he appears to have potent biotic powers and sounds strangely similar to a previous Mass Effect adversary – Harbinger.

We see snippets of the usual suspects from other trailers and screenshots from this title – Peebee, an Asari; Drack, a Krogan; Vetra, a female Turian. However, we also get a closer look at your human teammates Liam Kosta and Cora Harper (without a helmet obscuring her face) – who reminds me of Ruby Rose at face value. Cora is also revealed as one of the potential romance options in the game.

The second new alien race to the Mass Effect story – that we know of – is also seen in the cinematic trailer. They are a combination of well-armoured blue and purple creatures and are understandably cautious when Ryder and co. arrive on their homeworld.

Mass Effect: Andromeda’s other trailer is the fourth instalment in a series of clips, or Mission Briefings, available to those who’ve signed up to Bioware’s Andromeda Initiative updates. This particular clip, labelled Pathfinder & Team, is narrated by Cora and delves into a bit of backstory about the Andromeda Initiative and the specialisations of certain crew members aboard the Tempest.

While Cora herself – also second in command – doubles as a skilled biotic, spending the last few years amongst Asari commandos, Liam leads the way in “crisis response”. Both Sarah and Scott Ryder are introduced with brief, unique backgrounds regarding previous tours of duty.

These latest reveals for Mass Effect: Andromeda come after a brief gameplay clip at CES 2017 and a long-awaited, meaty gameplay trailer at The Game Awards last December.

You can sign up to Bioware’s Andromeda Initiative to view all previous Mission Briefings and progress towards earning a unique in-game Pathfinder helmet.

Mass Effect: Andromeda launches on March 21, 2017 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
