Gran Turismo 7 Has Ray Tracing Technology of Its Own?

Ray Tracing was one of the major highlights of the year but as of right now, it is exclusive to PC. Consoles will eventually catch up when better hardware is an option but for now, PC gamers are the only ones that can take advantage of this feature. Gran Turismo developer Polyphony Digital seems to be working on custom Ray Tracing technology and it might be part of Gran Turismo 7.

The developer talked about looking into different possibilities and at SIGGRAPH Asia 2018 Polyphony Digital confirmed that it was working on custom Ray Tracing technology. While we are not sure how this is going to be used and whether or not this is something that the upcoming PS5 will be able to power but if I was to take a guess I would say that this could be a feature in the upcoming Gran Turismo 7.

Polyphony Digital did not talk much about the technology but we do have a short demo of the technology that the developer is working on right now and you can check it out below:

The demo is pretty short but we can see what the developer is trying to pull off and it seems that the technology is not ready yet. It seems great for something that is still in progress. I am sure that by the time the PS5 is out this technology can be made better. From what we have seen on PC, real-time ray tracing can be very taxing on the graphics card and we can see that in the FPS dips.

Technology has come a long way. Five years from now it was not possible to have ray tracing effects using a single card and I would not be surprised if the PS5 is capable of running games with ray tracing in 2020.

Let us know what you think about all this and whether or not you think Gran Turismo 7 will come with ray tracing effects.
