Monster Hunter World: Iceborne may have been released long before Christmas, but I still consider it a Christmas expansion. The entire DLC is about a new snowy area of Monster Hunter World, which just screams winter and the festive season to me. In celebration of Christmas, or maybe as a punishment, the expansion has a new siege monster available until the 5th of January, Safi’Jiiva. Siege monsters are like raids in other MMOs, requiring a team of hunters to work together and work hard in order to bring down some of the toughest foes the game has to offer. There’s a lovely little trailer that shows off just how hard this monster is to fight, check it out below and read on for more details.
I’ve played a fair bit of Monster Hunter World, but I haven’t delved into the massive expansion just yet. From what players are saying though, this is one of the toughest siege monsters there has ever been. Safi’Jiiva will continuously heal throughout the fight, making it an extremely powerful foe, and one that could fully heal itself if you don’t chase after it quickly. While it’s possible to take this beast down by yourself, it’s scaled for multiplayer so you should really get into a lobby and do it with some friends. Failing that you could do what I do, load up the encounter and send off a flare for help, it always works.
I don’t have the knowledge to go into the nitty gritty about the rewards you get from this siege monster, but what I can tell you is that they’re the best in the game so far. Players are farming this monster just because the armour and weapons you can craft from the materials you get are so great, better than anything else currently available.
In terms of Christmas content, this isn’t that festive. However, this is an in-game event that’s well worth your time if you enjoy Monster Hunter World. I can’t think of anything better than playing an MMO on Christmas Day, and this might be the one I dive into. The fact that there’s so much replayability required to get all the armour and weapons only adds to how great the event is, offering a tonne of gameplay at this festive time of year for free, providing you have the game and the expansion.
