Resident Evil 3 Remake Is Oddly Disturbing Without Zombies

Resident Evil 3 Remake has been out for a few weeks now, and the mods are beginning to roll in. The most popular one added Isabelle’s head from Animal Crossing: New Horizons to Jill Valentine, but that’s just pure nightmare fuel. The mod I’m writing about here is actually worse in a way, because it turns all zombies, and enemies, in the game into standard people.

Resident Evil 3 Remake is full of zombies, obviously, as well as a few other slightly creepy enemies that lurk in the shadows. There are also those complete and utter buggers known as Pale Heads. What this mod does is remove all of them, in a way. It replaces them with models of standard dudes that must be somewhere in the game’s files. Unfortunately for them, I think they’re only there so that they can be eaten alive in from of us at some point.

You’d have thought that this makes the game more manageable, and it really does. Every encounter sees all the enemies replaced by dudes that just stand around. They actually act as if you’re getting in their way a bit, staring you down as you pass them by. The animations will still play out in certain scenes, but they won’t ever bite Jill.

The mod even replaces the Drain Deimos, those disgusting bugs early on in the game, with the same dudes. Most of them will just stand around, as you’d expect, but because they come from the ceiling too you can actually just find them standing upside down. This is the point at which I became too creeped out to even consider using the mod. I don’t think I’d be able to take the dead stare from a man hanging upside down and acting as if nothing is wrong.

Finally, the mod also affects Nemesis. You don’t quite see it in action, probably because the mod isn’t ready just yet, but it looks like the animations will be perfect for him too. I really want to see how this mod would play out in some of the Nemesis boss fights, because there are moments when Nemesis is massive, and running around on the walls too. I think the mod creator could have some fun with those scenes in particular, but we’ll have to wait and play to find out exactly what they do.
