I Finally Understand What The Rampage In Monster Hunter Rise Is

Monster Hunter Rise is going to be a fantastic game. If the demo was anything to go by, this game has legs that will take it well beyond 2021 as a viable game to return to week after week. In this week’s Nintendo Direct, a new trailer was released for the game. This trailer showed off a better look at the story, and inadvertently explained to me exactly what The Rampage is. This is an event that has been hinted at in all of the press information for the game, but until now I wasn’t clear on what it actually looked like. Check out the trailer below to see if you can tell, then read on for more.

On top of showing off some gruesome new monsters, this trailer highlights The Rampage. As I understand it, monsters around this region of the Monster Hunter world are being stirred up. I don’t know why, but it might have something to do with the cover monster for the game, Magnamalo. This monster looks to be extremely powerful, and may be able to influence other monsters through some sort of ability we’re yet to see.

As a result, monsters are heading straight for the nearest town, and are trying to destroy it. We can see what looks like a Rampage mission towards the end of the trailer. Players are battling hordes of monsters as they all throw themselves at the gates to the village. Hunters have to mount a final stand to keep the monsters at bay. It doesn’t look like this is going to be anywhere near easy, in fact it’s probably going to be one of the hardest battles in the game.

The Rampage then, is the monsters inexplicably coming to kill hunters. This is contradictory to how monsters behave in the Monster Hunter universe, and it doesn’t seem natural. I’m so excited to see how the lore unfolds around this story. I think we’ll get a look at this universe in a way that we’ve never been able to have before. It’s going to change our understanding, and maybe even broaden our horizons in the real world.
