Io Interactive announced how they’re going to continue to support Hitman 3 for the foreseeable future last week. The game is getting seven seasons of new content, each one themed around one of the seven deadly sins. The seasons will add new content as the developer has each month for free already. However, this will be the premium track of new content that players can access every four to six weeks or so. It’s a risky move because they’re basically going back to episodic content, but this time every episode is a season. In Act 1: Greed, they’re introducing new mechanics, and I think I know how those are going to work.
The theme for this first season is greed. Io Interactive has already explained that players will be able to carry items between levels, and that’s going to play a major role in the new Escalation at least. To me, this shows us that we’ll need to pick up specific items in the early levels so that we can use them in the later ones. I think this will be a case of having to restart the entire Escalation over and over again until you know what items you need to grab in level 1.
It’s nice to see that every season also mixes up the appearance of a location in the game. The first season does it with Dubai, turning it into a pit of gold where coins are scattered everywhere. I’m not sure how this will play to the actual missions we have to take on, but It’ll mix up the map so much that even veterans are going to struggle to keep up with what’s going on. Mainly though, it’s just nice to see Io Interactive actively investing in this game. Hopefully, this is the start of yearly expansions for Hitman 3, allowing us to keep the game alive long after its launch. With the developer working on something new in the James Bond IP, all we can hope is that the Hitman 3 team stays true to the game and gives us some epic moments with Agent 47. I can’t wait to see how the other sins play out.
