This week, Capcom confirmed that it is working on some DLC for Resident Evil Village. This is something that I think we all knew was coming, but Capcom decided it needed to tell us anyway. The one thing I want to know is what this DLC is going to look like. There are a lot of places it could go, and a few ways in which it could maintain the level of horror, take it further or make for an action-packed experience instead. In this article, I want to explore some options so that we can all start to think about what we want from the DLC.
My first thoughts on Resident Evil Village DLC always go to an action-packed shooter expansion. This is ultimately what happened to Resident Evil 7, and I think that Capcom is planning something along these lines in the background. It might not be as good as the base game or Resident Evil 7, but it’ll tell a story that’s probably going to answer a lot of the questions left over from the base game. As to what character we’ll play as, we’ll have to wait and see what Capcom decides.
My next thoughts are on horror-focused DLC. In Resident Evil 7, there was a brilliant piece of content that saw players try to escape from a room where Margarete was feeding them, leaving them tied up in a chair as she went off to do stuff around the house. Something along these lines would be perfect. In my head, we could be a character trapped in a barrel. Dimitrescu would come down to drain our blood a few times, so there would be a finite amount of time that you had to finish the DLC in. If you don’t get out in time, or Dimitrescu sees you out of the barrel, then she kills you on the spot. More helpless horror will go a long way in my opinion.
Finally, we may just get more of the same. A straight expansion of the base game with a new character but the same mechanics might work better than anything else. We’ll just have to wait and see what we get.
