No Man’s Sky Frontiers Is Finally Here

No Man's Sky

Last week, we finally got the latest update for No Man’s Sky: Frontiers. This update is something that we’ve been waiting a pretty long time for. Sean Murray took his sweet time teasing it a total of three times before it launched. He showed us that we can indeed rely on some sort of pattern of emojis when it comes to a release, but he’s never consistent enough for us to get a grip. Anyway, Frontiers is here, and it brings a lot of new stuff to the game. It’s better looking, has a new settlement system that allows you to run your own town, and even a base building revamp from the ground up.

Frontiers is something that Murray said the team would be using as a platform to springboard off from with future content. I love that idea, and I can’t wait to see where things go from here. Right now, settlements are places you can run as an overseer, helping out the locals and making decisions on what gets built. It’s down to you to build these settlements up and make them into something more. They all start as abandoned towns with disgruntled inhabitants, but then you can raise them up to be prospering hubs of travel and production.

I think this is probably the next logical step for No Man’s Sky. While I’d prefer to see a regular schedule for Expeditions, I think more players will appreciate this new town simulation experience we can all enjoy. It’s got so much to offer, and you can even, with the help of some glitch building, make your own base around the town, so you can build a lot of cool new stuff that may not even be intentional. I’ve been messing around with it myself, and so far it feels pretty great.

No Man’s Sky hasn’t gone as long without a decent update as it did between Prisms and Frontiers for a while. At least, that’s how it felt. I definitely believe that with more regular Expeditions, the gaps between updates will feel smaller. We’ll just have to wait and see what the developers have in store for us.
