You Need To Play Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One On Day One

Frogwares finally announced a release date for Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One last week. The game comes out on November 16 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and PS4 and Xbox One the day after. This is one of those games that you need to play on the day it comes out, otherwise you’ll be missing out terribly. It’s one of those titles that will blow up for a short time and then disappear into the background. Sherlock Holmes is such an iconic character that there’s no way this game couldn’t explode. If you don’t play it on day one though, you’ll really be missing out.

The advantage of playing a game like this on the day it releases is that you avoid any spoilers. The game is about solving puzzles and murders, and you’re going to see the solutions floating around online if you don’t crack on and get through most of it as soon as you can. That’s just the nature of games these days, but I think it really applies with this one. There’s so much potential for spoilers to be thrown your way that I think everyone who isn’t playing it on day one will lose interest a day or so later. Of course, there is still the last-gen version’s release to take advantage of.

This game is a unique take on the character of Sherlock Holmes. You’ll be solving puzzles as a calm, cool, and collected investigator whilst also packing heat and shooting enemies. What I love about the presentation is how Sherlock’s mind is presented. You can see multiple outcomes of events and choose which one to go with. You can also get a vision filter that shows how Sherlock’s mind works. The armor on enemies is highlighted because that’s what Sherlock would notice first. The same is true of items of interest as soon as he enters a room.

I think there’s a lot going on in this game, and it’s going to be a shame if you miss it. There’s plenty of time to pre-order, so go and do so now to avoid having it spoiled and missing out on one of the best releases of November that isn’t a shooter title.
