Hitman 3 Season Of Envy Got Off To A Great Start

Hitman 3 Season of Envy is well and truly underway, and it’s been a brilliant season so far. At the time of writing, I’ve only just been able to get through the new Escalation, The Envy Contention, and am eagerly awaiting the new Elusive Target. So far though, I have to say that I’m so pleased with how the season has been going and looks. It’s a huge shift from the Season of Greed, the first part of the Season of Sins Collection, and clearly Io Interactive has been listening to feedback because everything coming out now is pure gold.

The new Escalation is one of the most interesting we’ve ever had. While it doesn’t make the most of the randomization mechanic introduced in The Dartmoor Garden Show and Lust’s Escalation, it’s still really great. you have to kill your targets in the way that Envy defines before another assassin in the mission does. Having this level of competition is nice, but I feel like the other assassin could be faster and more challenging. In a way, it’s a natural progression of the multiplayer mode that Hitman 2 had for a while. Players could put their ghosts into a Contract for others to compete against, and it was pretty great.

In practice, I think that Io Interactive would like to bring that mechanic back, but there’s too much work that needs to be done on its end to make it as good as it can be. That’s why we’ve had this Escalation that sort of does the same thing. Hopefully, the developer will bring it back for real at the end of the Seasons of Sin Collection.

So far though, Envy is the best season in Hitman 3 to date. I can’t wait to see what else is coming to the game after this initial batch of content is done. My only complaint is that there aren’t more missions in each of the revamped areas. Having more excuses to explore them would be great, but I appreciate that putting the Escalations together is no easy feat. Maybe one day we’ll be given a slew of new challenges. One can hope.
