You Should Go Back To Assassin’s Creed Odyssey For The Valhalla Crossover

Assassins Creed

Last week, Ubisoft launched a crossover story with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla within Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. The event added a new story and several quests to both games, but it’s Odyssey I played first. I played through all of the Odyssey stuff on the night it released, and I had a fantastic time doing so. It feels like a great way to cap off Kassandra’s story, even though it then leaves things open for everything that comes after, so really it’s just something that fills in the gaps that were already there in the Assassin’s Creed universe. Honestly, it’s essential lore and well worth your time.

When you start the quest, you’re taken to Korfu, a new island in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. There’s a fair bit to do here if you’ve got the time to put into it, and I thoroughly recommend that you do. There are main quests and small side quests that fill out the entire island, which is pretty massive in itself. It took me about three hours to fully complete the main campaign that’s been added, but there’s so much more that you could put in if you really wanted to. It’s up to you how much effort you put in.

What this DLC does is set a precedent for all future Assassin’s Creed games. There’s no reason that the games need to be self-contained unless their stories demand them to be. Kassandra is immortal, so she’s off looking for all sorts of instruments of evil in her life, and that’s why her story sees her come to terms with that and then head off into the sunset. I’ve not played the Valhalla expansion yet, but I know this is where Eivor and Kassandra will meet, and it’s how these worlds will finally cross paths.

Ubisoft could be onto something really great here. A narrative that spans throughout the entire Assassin’s Creed universe once again. We used to have this when Desmond was alive and we were following his ancestors. Maybe we can go back to those days again now that we have an immortal chasing Pieces of Eden around the world.
