Who owns Heardle?
Originally developed by an anonymous London-based developer in February 2022, Heardle was purchased by Spotify last July for an undisclosed sum.
As our regular readers will know, daily puzzle game Wordle has spawned numerous unofficial spinoffs since it took the world by storm in 2021.
Covering almost every interest – from geography (Worldle, Globle) to maths (Nerdle) and movies, there’s a daily game for everyone.
Heardle is one of the most popular titles of its genre.
How does Heardle work?
Heardle will be familiar to any fans of Josh Wardle’s iconic daily puzzler.
Users must listen to the intro of the daily tune and identify the track in question within six guesses.
However, in an interesting twist, any incorrect or skipped answers reveal more of the track to listen to.
The challenge, naturally, is to answer in as few guesses as possible.
Is Heardle shutting down?
In an astonishing turn of events, Spotify announced on April 17 that Heardle is to shut down.
Users will have until May 5 to get their fix and keep a record of their stats, as the streaming giant looks to cut its losses amidst a dwindling (but still sizeable) user base.
Heardle represents somewhat of an untapped opportunity for Spotify, who never managed to nail down seamless integration with its own popular app.
Until the official close-down, we’ll continue bringing you the daily quiz answers for Heardle. If the number of dedicated fan-made spinoffs – such as Heardle 80s, 90s & Decades – is anything to go by, a de facto replacement may yet follow.
