Team Fortress 2 Breaks Player Record

Team Fortress 2, Valve’s popular free-to-play multiplayer shooter, recently received an update that includes several new features and changes.

Dubbed “Summer 2023”, the update provides new cosmetics, taunts and maps along with bug fixes and balance adjustments.

One of the more notable new features in this update is Summer 2023 Unusual effects, only available during Summer events and apply to various cosmetics – fireflies, rainbows and sparklers are among these.

This update also adds a brand-new map called “pl_cashworks,” set within a bank and offering players several new challenges and goals to complete. Furthermore, “Payload Race,” an unconventional variant of Payload mode has also been included within this map.

As well as new content, this update also brings numerous bug fixes and balance changes, such as fixing an exploit which allowed players to build outside of bounds, as well as tweaks to Engineer Sentry Gun.

Here are some of the major changes included in this update:

New cosmetics such as hats, taunts and weapons; two new maps (pl_cashworks and cp_sunshine); as well as Payload Race mode which has recently been introduced with this update.
Bug Fixes: The update addresses multiple bugs, such as one allowing players to build out of bounds.
Balance Changes: Additionally, several balance adjustments have been implemented as part of this update, including to the Engineer Sentry Gun.

Team Fortress 2’s Summer 2023 update brings with it an abundance of new content and changes sure to keep players entertained for hours at a time.

The game actually managed to set a new player record following the release of the update. The game reached a peak of 253,997 concurrent players on July 13, 2023, more than doubling its previous record of 167,591 set back in December 2022.
