Major Video Game Releases for October 2023

2023 has been a fantastic year for the video games industry. We have seen the release of many highly acclaimed titles such as Baldur’s Gate 3, Resident Evil 4 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. However, this year is still far from over. October 2023 looks to be perhaps the busiest and most exciting period yet for new releases. In this article, I will be listing below the top games to keep on your radar for next month.

Major Releases for October 2023

03/10/23 – The Lamplighter’s League (PC, XBO, XSX)

Starting off the list is Lamplighter’s League. This is an upcoming turn-based strategy game. It takes place in an alternate version of the 1930’s. The basic gameplay blends stealth and infiltration with turn-based strategy combat. During the course of play, you have access to 10 different characters at launch, all with unique abilities. It is your mission to stop a cult named the Banished Court from achieving world domination.

05/10/23 – Assassin’s Creed: Mirage (PC, PS4, PS5, XBO, XSX)

The next entry in the Assassin’s Creed franchise takes players to 9th century Baghdad. This game aims to take Assassin’s Creed back to its roots in terms of the core gameplay. The world map is smaller than in the most recent titles. However, there is more focus on the main story and on the stealth and parkour mechanics. It is sure to captivate newcomers and veterans alike by going back to the old tried and tested formula.

10/10/23 – Forza Motorsport (PC, XSX)

Forza Motorsport is an upcoming racing sim game developed by Turn 10 Studios. This is the very latest iteration of the long-running Forza franchise and the first game developed exclusively for current gen consoles. As such, it will include advanced visual effects such as ray-tracing for the first time. Turn 10 Studios have openly voiced their commitment to push graphical boundaries with this title. Not only this, the game is predicted to have over 500 vehicles available at launch in addition to single and multiplayer content. All in all, this promises to be a fantastic racing game and one definitely not to miss. Like The Lamplighter’s League, this will be a day one GamePass release.

13/10/23 – Lords of the Fallen (PC, PS5, XSX)

The Lords of Fallen is an action role-playing game. It is played from a third-person perspective and features soulslike gameplay mechanics. In the game, you are able to customise your own character and go through the campaign either solo or in multiplayer. Lords of Fallen is also rather unique in that it features two interconnected worlds. These are the Axiom and Umbral realms. The former is the realm of the living while the latter is the realm of the dead.

17/10/23 – Sonic Superstars (PC, NS, PS4, PS5, XBO, XSX)

Sonic Superstars is an upcoming platform game and the latest entry in the long-running Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. Sonic Superstars goes back to the series’ 2D platforming roots. The levels themselves are rendered in 3D, but the gameplay is 2D leading a beautiful fusion between old and new Sonic. In the game, there will be three other playable characters besides Sonic. They are Tails, Knuckles and Amy. What’s more, it will feature single and local multiplayer.

20/10/23 – Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (PS5)

The highly awaited sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man is finally on the horizon. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will leverage the power of the PS5 to create the most immersive experience in a Spider-Man yet. This game will feature both Peter Parker and Miles Morales as they combat multiple different villains including Lizard and Venom Symbiote. It will also expand upon the gameplay of the original with new abilities to unlock and new areas to explore. This has been one of this year’s most highly-anticipated games, and it is easy to see why. From the trailer, the Spider-Man 2 looks truly spectacular!

 20/10/23 – Super Mario Bros. Wonder (NS)

Super Mario Bros Wonder. takes the Super Mario Bros. series back to its origins as a 2D platformer. This is the first traditional 2D Mario platformer we have seen on the Switch and it looks truly amazing. The game builds upon previous 2D Mario games such as New Super Mario Bros. Wii. The graphics looks better than ever and there are many new power-ups and enemies to shake things up. One new power-up involves Mario transforming into an elephant! Overall, this game looks like great fun and is true to delight fans of 2D platformers and of Mario in general.

24/10/23 – Cities: Skylines II (PS5, XSX, PC)

This is the sequel to the highly popular city management game, Cities Skylines. Cities Skylines II seeks to improve and expand even further upon the city building mechanics of the original. For example, the game will allow players to build a far larger city, expanding out to 441 tiles. It will now also feature fully-realised transportation and economic systems as well as improved traffic AI. What’s more, this is yet another title launching day one on Xbox GamePass.

27/10/23 – Alan Wake II (PC, PS5, XSX)

This is an upcoming survival horror title by Remedy Entertainment. It serves as the sequel to the original Alan Wake. The game features two playable characters, namely Alan Wake and Saga Anderson. Each character has their own single-player story. During the course of play Saga Anderson will find herself involved in a horror story written by Alan Wake himself.

31/10/23 – Jusant (PC, PS5, XSX)

Last but certainly not least is Jusant. This is a platformer by developed by ‘Don’t Nod’. In the game, you take control of a lone character as they climb a deserted tower filled by ancient artifacts from the past. The tower is split into multiple different areas and the higher you climb, the more you will uncover about the civilisation that once inhabited it. Jusant overall sounds like a truly fascinating game and is a great way to finish an action-packed October 2023 for video games. In addition, Jusant will also be a day one GamePass release.
