The Best Free PlayStation Plus Games Ever: Top 10

PlayStation Plus is a highly popular subscription service available for PS4 and PS5 users. It has three tiers ranging from PS Plus essential to premium, each one with added benefits compared to the last tier. The lowest tier starts at £6.99 and allows subscribers to enjoy online multiplayer in a range of titles. In addition to this, it also gives players multiple free games each month. Over the years, there have been some truly fantastic games added to the service. This includes anything from third-party indie titles, to big AAA games. Read on below for a list of the top 10 games ever to come to PlayStation Plus. It is worth noting that this list isn’t strictly based on average review scores, but is rather my personal opinion of the top 10 titles.

10. Control

Control is a highly popular action-adventure game by Remedy Entertainment. In the game, you explore the ‘Oldest House’ which is an area full of paranormal activity. You must also fight off the hiss with the powers you gain throughout the adventure. From its unique story, to its impressive visuals, Control received much praise upon release. It remains a fantastic title that is definitely worth checking out.

9. Ratchet and Clank

Ratchet and Clank (2018) was a beautiful remake of the original for PS4. Along with vastly improved visuals, it also featured many quality of life improvements. This truly made it the definitive way to experience the game, and this was reflected in its great reviews. For long-time fans of the series and newcomers alike, this was another amazing addition to the PS Plus library

8. Rayman Legends

Rayman Legends is a highly acclaimed 2D platformer. Building upon its predecessor Rayman Origins, Legends features boundless fun and inventive levels. It has a great attractive art-style, along with fun and engaging gameplay. Overall, Origins is a delightful 2D platformer that made for a must-play addition to PS Plus.

7. Final Fantasy VII Remake

In April 2020, the first part of the Final Fantasy VII was finally released. The game was completely remade from scratch with Unreal Engine 4 and featured a more immersive and engaging portrayal of Midgar than ever before. For fans of JPRG’s in general, this was a must-play upon coming to PS Plus. From the amazing soundtrack, to the superb visuals and story, there is a whole lot to love about Final Fantasy VII Remake.

6. Bioshock: The Collection

Bioshock: The Collection is a fantastic deal. It includes all three Bioshock games in one. All three of the games are still fantastic to this day and are definitely worth playing. They offer fantastic first-person combat that is sure to test your wits. In addition to all this, the three games feature updated visuals and a higher frame-rate bringing them more in line with modern games.

5. Shadow of the Colossus

Shadow of the Colossus was remade in truly spectacular fashion for the PS4 in 2018. What was already an amazing experience, was made better than ever. The game itself is a highly immersive action-adventure title. It tasks you with reviving a girl named Mono, and takes you across many beautiful, minimalist landscapes.

4. Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection was amazing value for money. It included three critically acclaimed titles in one. In Uncharted, you play as Nathan Drake on his quest to find hidden treasures. The games feature plenty of exciting combat backed up with an immersive story and memorable characters. All three of these games received critical acclaim upon release, so this was a truly amazing addition to PS Plus.

3. The Last of Us Remastered

The Last of Us is a highly acclaimed action-adventure title by Naughty Dog. In the game, you play as a survivor named Joel in world devasted by the Cordyceps fungal infection. He is soon tasked with transporting a girl named Ellie across the country in the hope that her natural immunity will help make a cure. The game’s highlights include its incredible story and fantastic visuals. All in all, The Last of Us is one you definitely don’t want to miss.

2. Bloodborne

Bloodborne is a souls-like game exclusive to PlayStation consoles. With challenging but rewarding combat mechanics and an overall amazing level of polish, this was a big hit. It received universal acclaim and went down as one of the PS4’s best exclusives. For fans of the souls game, this is an absolute must-play.

1. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Last but certainly not least on the list is Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. This game served as an amazing conclusion to the Metal Gear Solid series. It showcased Hideo Kojima at his best, and it excelled especially in its gameplay. The stealth mechanics in Metal Gear Solid V are truly fantastic and there is a huge amount of content to enjoy. With an OpenCritic score of 93 out of 100, this is another must play and undoubtedly one of the best free PS Plus games ever.
