Wonder Woman Game Won’t Be Live Service But May Feature Microtransactions

Wonder Woman

A few days ago, the gaming rumor mill was set ablaze by talks about the Wonder Woman game. This was because of rumors about whether the game would be live service following a recent job listing detail find. Wccftech spotted a gameplay lead software engineer position opening at Monolith. This position included “helping maintain a live software product or game” as one of the responsibilities.

Ever since the publication found this information, a lot of developments have occurred. For one, the job listing no longer lists the controversial responsibility as part of its list. Not only that, but an executive from Warner Bros. has also stepped up to the plate to talk about the upcoming game. The spokesperson talked to IGN to set the record straight about what the Wonder Woman game would be about.

According to the spokesperson, the Wonder Woman game is going to be a single-player affair and will not be a live service offering. “Wonder Woman is a single-player action-adventure game set in a dynamic open world. This third-person experience will allow players to become Diana of Themyscira and introduce an original story set in the DC Universe, while also featuring the Nemesis System. Wonder Woman is not being designed as a live service.”

The Nemesis system, for those not in the know, is a WB Games mechanic that introduces enemies that grow stronger as the player does. Thus, the system allows for a more personalized experience in which enemies are tailored to their gameplay. This system was first introduced in the Middle-Earth games and has become a staple of the franchise since. However, it also has become a controversial system in Shadow of War due to how it encouraged microtransactions.

This also wraps back around at what the upcoming Wonder Woman game might be. While the game is a single-player affair, it might still feature some elements such as “Timesavers” or Microtransactions. The wording of the WB Games spokesperson leaves things open for interpretation, so it’s important to keep an open mind about the subject. Do remember to stay tuned for more news regarding this upcoming game.
