The Sims 4: How To Get Debug Items

The Sims 4

So you’ve been playing The Sims 4 and are wondering how to get debug items, eh? Look no further, because this guide has everything you need to know about debug items and how to use them. Sims 4 is an in-depth life simulation game that has something for all players, including building homes and venues, creating unique Sims, and experiencing life’s many trials and tribulations. The base game is free to play, but regular updates and DLC releases have added even more.

However, not all of the best content is strictly locked behind a paywall. For example, those who enjoy the building portion of Sims 4 can access all the debug items free of charge to put the finishing touches on their designs.

What Are Debug Items?

Debug items are either needed for building/buying decorations or placeholder objects that are used throughout the various worlds. They have no gameplay value but can be placed in households like normal objects despite the Sims’s inability to interact with them. These include lamp posts, signs, rocks, and trees. The base game has specific sets that players can use, but you must get the DLC to utilise the thousands of extra items across all the Sim’s content.

How to Get Debug Items

So, it’s come down to this: the big question. And the only way to get the special stuff is to use a cheat. Thankfully for you, though, you won’t be breaking any rules because cheating is actually a big part of this game, with a built-in cheat menu being built into the Sims 4. Plus, the menu has a text box where players can enter their neat little codes, and you can do this regardless of whether you’re on a PC or console.

Before using the debug cheat, players must enable it by opening the chat box. To pull it up, do one of the following:

  • Hold CTRL + SHIFT + C (PC)
  • Hold COMMAND + SHIFT + C (Mac)
  • Hold all four triggers (Console)

Once you’ve enabled cheats, type testingCheats into the chat box. After that, the first step is to type bb.showHiddenObjects. This activates the Buy Debug Mode in the build/buy menu. Then, those who still haven’t heard their fill can type bb.sgowLiveEditObjects to unlock even more items. Players can use the search bar in build/buy mode to make things easier and type in DEBUG to pull up all the items. You are bound to find something that tickles your fancy and gives you that extra little touch on your Sim’s special pad.

The Sims 4 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. Happy Simming!
