If you are going to collect ships in Starfield, you had better have deep pockets. Having the best ships at your fingertips makes a huge amount of difference throughout your cosmic journey, and that comes at a price.
As you progress through the game, you explore various unexplored regions. It is a wonderful challenge as your tasks vary greatly. In one breath, you can be stashing illegal cargo from the authorities, in the next, you’ll be running for your life from the space pirates with their eyes on your cargo hold.
Each ship varies in size, type and cost, and here we list them all for your convenience. We cover the ships, the stats, the locations and their costs/requirements.
What are the different classes of ship in Starfield?
In Starfield, there are 3 classes of ship: A, B and C.
The classes of ships are grouped together based on common shared straits:
- C Ships have high firepower and low mobility.
- B Ships have moderate firepower and moderate mobility – basically middle-of-the-road craft.
- A Ships have low firepower but make up for this, with high mobility.
There are other stats which should be considered when picking a ship and we detail those with each ship in the rest of this article:
- Reactor value – how much power you can allocate to each ship module.
- Hull and shield – how much of a beating your ship can take before it is destroyed.
- Lasers, particle weapons, ballistics and missile values – all indicate how effective the ship is in combat against enemies.
What are the best ships in Starfield?
Without further ado, Here are the best ships in Starfield:
1. Razorleaf
- Class A
- Fuel – 140
- Hull – 469
- Cargo Capacity – 420
- Shielded Capacity – 160
- Reactor – 18
- Crew – 2
- Jump – 16 LY
- Shield – 390
- LAS – 6
- PAR – 16
- MSL – 36
Awarded for completing the “Mantis” sidequest, the Razorleaf is a Class A ship which is a wonderful early game gift that doesn’t dent your wallet. The Razorleaf has a shielded cargo which allows for illegal contraband smuggling. It comes with a relatively meager kit but offers a massive upgrade to the Frontier ship. Razorleaf boasts a stronger reactor which allows for more power output, and shield and hull, which allows for longer-life in battle situations.
Bringing particle weaponry to the party, the Razorleaf doesn’t offer a great deal in the way of damage, but does allow for great deals of damage to be doled out to shields and hulls simultaneously.
2. Aegis
- Class B
- Fuel – 800
- Hull – 721
- Cargo Capacity – 200
- Reactor – 21
- Crew – 5
- Jump – 29 LY
- Shield – 610
- LAS – 20
- BAL – 96
- MSL – 68
This class B ship is available for purchase from Nikau Henderson at Deimos Staryard for 196,700 credits. Deimos Staryard is a station orbiting Mars. Reaching the much coveted max rank to get access to C-class ships takes rather a long time, so in the meantime, it is best to make do with the best class B ship on the market, and by all accounts, that is the Aegis.
The Aegis craft balances shield and hull with 610 and 721 values respectively. It brings LSR 20, BLT 96 and MSL 68 to the fight, which is more than adequate to tackle whatever the weird-and-wonderful world of Starfield throws at you.
3. Stronghold
- Class C
- Fuel – 2200
- Hull – 1047
- Cargo Capacity – 2360
- Reactor – 27
- Crew – 6
- Jump – 30 LY
- Shield – 1600
- LAS – 36
- BAL – 48
Stronghold is a behemoth of a space-craft, clocking in high hull and shield values, it is the best ship for tanking and focusing entirely on deliveries – with its massive cargo capacity – and exploration, rather than out-and-out combat. This craft doesn’t lack in the offensive category however and packs average laser weaponry and ballistic modules, to deal just as much damage as it is able to take.
This beast is purchasable for 380,971 credits from the ship service technician in Akila City. This is found in the Cheyenne system.
4. Abyss Trekker
- Class C
- Fuel – 950
- Hull – 1031
- Cargo Capacity – 340
- Reactor – 27
- Crew – 6
- Jump – 25 LY
- Shield – 1600
- PAR – 38
- BAL – 162
- MSL – 96
Piloting the Abyss Tracker usually identifies you as a player who is more focused on fighting, than making friends and earning credits. Coming with 162 BAL, the Abyss Tracker is capable of decimating enemies in a breath. It has the lowest mass of ANY featured class-c ship, with 1282, but this tradeoff, comes with a price. The price to pay is, shield and lack of hull protection. Definitely worth the purchase but buyer beware, this kitty has claws and loves to scratch.
5. Narwhal
- Class C
- Fuel – 560
- Hull – 2118
- Cargo Capacity – 1760
- Reactor – 36
- Crew – 7
- Jump – 30 LY
- Shield – 995
- LAS – 24
- BAL – 114
- MSL – 82
Clocking in at 436,620 credits the Narwhal is an incredibly expensive class-c ship, but if any ship is worth the entry price, it’s this one. Purchasing this one, is not as easy as visiting one single vendor. You must first go to Neon on the Volii Alpha Planet in the Volii system, then find the Taiyo Astroneering building and finally, take the elevator to visit Veronica who sells the ship.
The firepower on offer here is lower than the Abyss Trekker, and the ship is able to withstand almost the same damage as the Stronghold. You can have the highest number of crew within these three ships, and the most powerful reactor. To say it is worth the purchase would be an understatement.
The Narwhal takes its name from a legendary Earth sea creature, that was much coveted for its horn and meat value and this ship is no different.
The Narwhal may not be the fastest, strongest or have the largest capacity of all the ships, but it sure is the best value for money and will be a legend across the stars, long before your campaign is over.
So there we have it, these are the best ships in Starfield. Hopefully this list will help you the next time you are looking for a new ride to carve your story across the galaxy. For now, be careful out there pilot, you never know what’s lurking in the next star system for you…
