After the original game captivated the hearts and minds of PlayStation players, everyone knew that a sequel to The Last of Us had to come at some point.
While we got a sequel, fans are still hungry for many as many wonder where The Last of Us 3 is. It has been four years now since the release of Part 2, and although we have received remasters and a TV show for The Last of Us, no real news has been widely spread about another sequel. However, just because nothing major has happened like a trailer drop, that doesn’t mean that no news about The Last of Us 3 is going around.
Druckmann: ‘One More Chapter’ in the Last of Us Story
The big news is that a sequel is confirmed to be in the works, thanks to a documentary that Naughty Dog Studios has put out this week. In the documentary, co-creator Near Druckmann said that there is a “concept” for the next sequel in the works. While this isn’t a confirmation, Druckmann does go on to say that “it does feel like there’s probably one more chapter to this story.”
This is the closest to a confirmation we have that The Last of Us 3 is in development. But just because it is in development doesn’t mean that it will be coming out anytime soon. Taking what Druckmann said literally demonstrates that The Last of Us 3 is still in the concept stage and doesn’t have much if any hard development behind it to date.
This makes sense if you compare the difference in release times between the original Last of Us and Part 2.
When will The Last of Us 3 be released?
The original Last of Us came out back in 2013, with Part II releasing in 2020. So, we can expect a similar wait if not longer for Part 3, since development seems to be a bit slower on it. The current estimates say that The Last of Us Part 3 will not be released until the next decade. This means we probably won’t see it on the current generation of consoles.
If you are still craving a Last of Us fix, then you will be happy to know that the TV show will be getting a season 2 following its massive success. The second season should be beginning production soon and could air as soon as 2025 if they keep to their schedule.
