Fortnite is free-to-play and highly accessible since it is available across multiple devices. So you might wonder whether or not you should let your child play Fortnite. In this article, I go over the Fortnite age rating in the UK and US, so you can decide whether you should let your kid play the game.
Fortnite Age Rating Explained
Fortnite is always evolving and the developers keep adding new content to the game to keep it fresh. LEGO Fortnite, Rocket Racing, and Fortnite Festival have been added to the game and it is split into five different tiles within the base download.
Pan European Game Information (PEGI) has recently changed the age rating for Fortnite since it is considered to be an ecosystem rather than an individual game. Previously Fortnite had a PEGI 12 age rating but that has now been updated to display a Parental Guidance label which is displayed in the form of an exclamation mark.
The age ratings for the different Fortnite titles according to Pan European Game Information are:
- Fortnite Battle Royale – PEGI 12 (moderate violence)
- Fortnite Save the World – PEGI 12 (moderate violence, monsters)
- LEGO Fortnite – PEGI 7 (safe for kids)
- Fortnite Festival – PEGI 12 (bad language)
- Rocket Racing PEGI 3 (safe for everyone)
In the US, the ESRB has given Fortnite an age rating of Teen. This means that 13 years or older can play the game. The rating is in place due to the use of guns, swords, and violence in general.
Why Is My Kid So Interested In Playing Fortnite?
There are several reasons why your kid is so interested in playing Fortnite. It is free-to-play and has different modes including a battle royale mode and racing mode. It also allows for world-building. Furthermore, kids can play with friends in duos, trios, and teams. Popular gamers play Fortnite on sites such as YouTube and Twitch.
The cartoonish bloodless style of the action in Fortnite makes it less violent than other shooting games. So many parents allow their kids to play the game. It is possible that your kid’s friends are playing Fortnite and would like him/her to join in the fun.
Parental Controls
There are different parental controls that you can use in Fortnite to keep your children safe. You can monitor who they talk to via the online communication setting. This ensures that your child is not talking to strangers.
Furthermore, you can manage in-app purchases. You can set up passwords on credit cards that are linked to the system. You can also keep track of screen time to limit how long your child plays Fortnite.
Fortnite Availability
Fortnite is free to play and is available on select Android devices, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S and X, Nintendo Switch, and PC via the Epic Games Store.
