Chadley’s Combat Simulator in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth makes a return and throws down the gauntlet for players seeking an extra dose of punishment… and awesome rewards. There are seven simulator boss fights and in this article, we will try to rank all combat simulator boss fights from worst to best. We’re not just ranking these battles based on raw difficulty; we will delve into how each FF7 Rebirth Combat Simulator boss fight integrates with the story, introduces new mechanics, and ultimately leaves a lasting impression.
7. Phoenix
Early in your journey, you’ll face Phoenix, the fiery guardian of Junon, in the Combat Simulator (Chapter 4). While Phoenix itself boasts powerful healing magic (including the coveted Reraise), the fight itself is a bit of a letdown.
Phoenix spends most of the battle airborne, making aerial combat a factor (which can be frustrating). The key to victory lies in pressuring it while its “Empowering Flame” buff is active. This mechanic lacks depth, but defeating Phoenix unlocks its Materia, granting you access to Phoenix’s potent healing abilities.
6. Alexander
Early in Chapter Six, you’ll face Alexander in the Combat Simulator. This imposing mech might feel invisible at the start of the battle, as no matter what you throw at him barely scratches its metallic hide. Alexander’s colossal arms shield his vulnerable core.
The fight revolves around destroying those very arms. It’s a test of focus and quick decision-making as you switch targets and chip away at the defences. Don’t be fooled by the familiar strategy. Alexander demands precision and will punish sloppy play.
But once you conquer this mechanized giant, you’ll claim its Materia. This grants you access to Alexander’s devastating long-range, non-elemental magic attacks, perfect for attacking enemies from afar.
5. Kujata
The Chapter Nine Combat Simulator throws Kujata, a three-headed menace, your way. Unlike most bosses with predictable defences, Kujata cycles rapidly through fire, ice, and lightning resistances.
This fight is all about adapting your strategy. Watch Kujata closely – visual cues will indicate its current element. Exploit that weakness by matching Materia or character abilities to pressure it effectively. Yuffie’s Ninjutsu skills can be particularly useful here, allowing her to switch elements on the fly.
Kujata’s dynamic nature earns it the number 5 spot. It’s a unique challenge that rewards quick thinking and strategic use of elemental attacks.
Defeating Kujata unlocks its Materia, granting you a one-of-a-kind summon. It boasts three elemental attacks – Blazing Horn, Chilling Horn, and Crackling Horn – to target a variety of enemy weaknesses. Additionally, its Tri-Disaster ultimate unleashes a powerful multi-elemental blast, making Kujata a valuable asset in your party.
4. Titan
Chapter Two’s Combat Simulator throws Titan, your first boss fight, at your underleveled party. Titan utilizes various attacks (ground pounds, rock throws, melee combos) and jumps around the battlefield, keeping you on guard.
However, Titan’s Earthen Aegis shield mechanic (a temporary damage barrier) feels repetitive, making this fight less strategic and more like a grind. Despite the challenge, defeating Titan unlocks its Materia. As a summon, Titan focuses on melee attacks but isn’t the strongest close-range option. That’s why it lands at number 4.
3. Bahamut Arisen
Bahamut Arisen is a powerful evolution of the classic summon, which emerges in Chapter 10’s Combat Simulator. This fight is a tough one and needs your quick wit and best strategy.
However, what you need to know is that the key to victory lies in destroying Bahamut’s wings before it finishes casting “Particle Charge.” This hidden timer triggers a devastating transformation if not interrupted. In this fight, Synergy Skills are crucial for building its stagger gauge and destroying the orbs it summons to damage your party.
Bahamut Arisen’s unique challenge earns it the No. 3 spot on the list of ranked combat boss fights. It’s a thrilling fight that rewards fast reflexes and strategic use of Synergy Skills.
Conquering Bahamut Arisen grants you its Materia. As a summon, it focuses on reliable non-elemental magic attacks. It can even buff your party, making it a dependable DPS option (although it requires two ATB charges to summon).
2. Gilgamesh
Gilgamesh is the hidden boss unlocked only after completing Chapter 13 side quests. This simulator boss fight is a true check of your combat skills. During this fight, you will want to forget about using brute force since Gilgamesh is nearly immune to attacks. Your strategy revolves around debuffs and strategic manoeuvring to exploit openings.
Despite the difficulty, Gilgamesh’s entertaining personality and fan connections make the fight enjoyable.
Defeating him grants access to his Materia. As a summon, Gilgamesh unleashes powerful Excalibur attacks on your enemies, making him a valuable asset for the endgame. Although is a tough boss and a secret one, he is still not that much of a big deal, which earns him the No. 2 spot in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth combat simulator boss fights.
1. Odin
Odin is the ultimate challenger when you are in Chapter 11’s Combat Simulator. This is a boss fight that will test your skills and patience. I know it tested mine as he wiped me out several times before I was able to claim victory.
The thing is, he will wipe you out with his infamous Zantesuken attack alongside your entire party. This one forces you to use dodge until you can’t dodge no more, since blocking only triggers Odin’s ultimate.
You can use Phoenix’s Reraise to revive a fallen member after Zantetsuken, then pressure Oding, stagger him, and unleash Limit Breaks, all while tip-toeing around him in fear of his instant-kill attack.
All of this and much more makes Odin the No. 1 simulator boss fight. It is a brutal test of reflexes, strategy and a bit of luck. Once you end him, you will get his Materia, allowing you to unleash the devastating Zantetsuken attack on your enemies.
