It seems like every few weeks Escape From Tarkov is adding in a new set of microtransactions for players to buy. These “expansions”, or “add-ons”, as Battlestate has them labeled, were quite a point of contention when they were first announced. However, the latest set of expansions, providing the ability to purchase cosmetic outfits, seem to be another level of letdown to many of the game’s seasoned players.
Are Escape From Tarkov’s Expansions worth it?
Although this is not the first time clothes have been added to the list of purchasable items for players, the new outfits don’t seem to be worth the price to many. Out of the four new outfits added – two for each faction – two of them seem to be a recolor of the starter outfits for each group. Meanwhile, the other outfits are quite simple and bland compared to the other options players have available to them.
Of course, if you don’t want to pay for the new outfits, you can always earn them through new quests added to Escape From Tarkov. One outfit is unlocked by killing 50 Rogues and handing over 100 pieces of their gear, while the other is unlocked by killing 50 Raiders and handing over 100 pieces of their gear.
Outfit ‘expansions’ not too egregious (in their own right, at least)
All in all, these are no simple tasks, which makes buying them the more appealing option for many players. The price for the new outfits isn’t too egregious, either, at $7 for the starter and $12 for the other new outfit. However, it does add yet another small purchase that players have to make to avoid the grind.
This seems to be what all of Escape From Tarkov’s expansions are, small convenience purchases to avoid a grind or make the game easier. But there is going to come a time when Battlestate will push the envelope too far with their players.
Giving the ability to buy stash space and the option to do co-op offline raids with friends was something that many players were not too happy with, but many seemed to have gotten over the addition with time. However, there are rumors of more additions further down the line in the form of a new edition of the game being purchasable for $200 USD.
What is going to be included with this new edition of the game is currently unknown. It could be all of the current expansions bundled together and added onto the old Edge of Darkness edition of the game.
But if there are any new additions to the bundle that give players even more of a headstart than the current EOD edition, it will surely ruffle the feathers of the community even more than the current expansions already do.
