For the animal lovers out there, we’re looking for a 10-legged marine crustacean as the clue for today. This comes from the January 18, 2025 edition of the NYT Mini Crossword. We’re looking for a sea crustacean with a set of 10 legs and with seven letters going the across section. There’s something about sea animals where they have a fix set of legs, like an octopus, all of them have 8 legs, but this one isn’t a crustacean.
Our friend from under the sea with 10 legs
The answer is a SEACRAB, which, of course, the words are sea crabs. Believe it or not, all breeds of crabs have 10 legs. Even a mudcrab has 10 legs, so technically it’s not a sea crab, but it has the same legs as those from the sea.
Crabs come from a family of crustaceans called decapods. So the deca is an indication that they all have the same number of legs, regardless if they’re from the land or sea.
