How to Breed Frogs in Minecraft

Minecraft can be nail-bitingly scary at times and fast-paced, and you may find yourself seeking out a more peaceful life. Why not try learning how to breed frogs in Minecraft?

Minecraft has thousands and thousands of things for players to do. You might fancy yourself as a farmer, a trader, an explorer or even a fighter. Whatever your chosen profession, Minecraft has you covered.

Breeding frogs sounds like a walk-in-the-park but believe me, it is far more difficult than you think.

One does not simply ‘begin breeding frogs’, there are steps you must take and things you must know.

Luckily, all the information you need to become a frog breeder is right here.

What are Frogs In Minecraft?

Minecraft frogs are passive mobs that spawn in the over-world. They drop slimeballs when killed by a player or player-friendly wolf.

Frogs do not attack players but will attack slimes with provocation and can be used to farm slimeballs accordingly.

As with many creatures in Minecraft, Frogs appearances vary from biome-to-biome.

Frog Behaviour

Frogs appear on land and in water and vary from biome to biome in appearance based on their characteristics – more on that later.

They can jump eight blocks high and take far less fall damage than most mobs in Minecraft.

Minecraft Frogs tend to prefer lily pads and drip-leaves – rather like their real-life counterparts – which means you are more likely to find them near water sources.

They can swim, they travel much faster while swimming and usually stay above the surface unless tempted below by slimeballs.

The various species can be tamed and will attack various mobs, usually by using their tongue to pull them closer and despawn them.

Frogs can be used also to create froglights. The type of Frog determines the colour of the froglight, as seen below:

Types of Frogs

All good breeders know the importance of being knowledgeable about types of breedable animals, Minecraft frogs are no different.

All frogs come from tadpoles and depending on what biome the tadpole progresses in, decides the type of frog.

There are 3 different types of Frog to breed in Minecraft and each belongs to a specific biome.

The biome type translates into the Frog’s characteristic as follows;

Cold Frogs

The colder of the three. Cold Frogs spawn in biomes traditionally related to the cold such as; frozen rivers, snowy slopes and frozen peaks.

Temperate  Frogs

These adorable little crimson beauties, spawn in biomes that are traditionally milder, such as; beaches, stony shores and meadows.

Warm Frogs

The warmest of the three, the warm frog, spawns traditionally in the warmer of the biomes, this includes; deserts, savannas and warm oceans.

Step-by-Step Guide to Breeding Frogs

First things first, slimeballs:

You’ll need a slimeball to attract frogs, these can be obtained by either, killing slimes or making pandas sneeze them (no, really).

To breed frogs, you will need at least two slimeballs. Whichever method you choose is up to you – but the panda method is hilarious.

Holding a slimeball in your hand will attract all frogs within six blocks towards you – you know it’s time to breed if this happens.

  1. Farm some slimeballs (not judging on how you do that).

  2. Locate some frogs.

  3. Give two frogs a slimeball each to enable them to become amorous with one-another I.E enter ‘Love’ mode.

  4. Wait for them (one or other) to become pregnant.

  5. Frogs will then lay Frogspawn in a water block.

  6. All you have to do then is wait for the tadpoles (usually between 2-20 minutes).

  7. You can either wait for them to grow or you can feed them slimeballs to make them grow up faster.

There you have it, everything you need to know about Frogs and how to Breed Frogs in Minecraft. Hopefully this helps you on your next adventure in Minecraft and you become a very proficient frog breeder.
