Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 Player Count Surges Nearly 10 Years After Release

The family-friendly shooter, which was launched in February 2016, has experienced a sudden surge in its player count in the past week. At the time of writing, Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 has 6,286 concurrent players with a peak of roughly 9,257 in the past week. On average, Garden Warfare 2 has an active player base of roughly 1,200 players at any given moment.

Interestingly, the game experienced a similar player spike in June of last year, when the game reached its all-time peak of 9,670 players. In that instance, the influx of new players was attributed to a 90% discount of the game’s Deluxe Edition on Steam.

This time, however, there is special event behind the increased interest. Instead, it appears to be the result of an orchestrated campaign masterminded by streamer Jynxzi on Twitch, who earlier this month announced on his stream that he would be pushing to revive the plant-based team shooter.

Beyond the serendipity of streamer interest, Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 is good fun on its own. The game takes the familiar setting and characters of Plants Vs Zombies and transplants them into a hybrid amalgamation of third-person shooter, tower defence, and hero shooter. There’s nothing else quite like it.
