Where and How to Sleep in Esoteric Ebb

Esoteric Ebb sleep

The resting system in Esoteric Ebb is very strict, as it was inspired by the Dungeons and Dragons 5E mechanics that involve dice-rolling type of gameplay. This guide will provide you with tips and tricks on where and how to sleep in the game, including the exact location and mechanics.

Where to Sleep in Esoteric Ebb

Sleeping and resting are essential for survival in Esoteric Ebb. If you try to go 48 in-game hours without resting, your Cleric will die, regardless of the level of your exhaustion effects. There’s only one place, where you can sleep in the game, and that’s the Guard Tower. Other than that, there are no inns, random beds, hidden spots, or any other alternatives in the game. Here’s how to unlock the Guard Tower:

  1. Progress through Day 1 main story until it hits midnight.
  2. Explore areas like the Lichhouse, City Below, Visken’s Lair, Tolstad South, and Pillar Crossing.
  3. Attend the Coinlord’s Meet and head to Darrow’s House, which is located to the northwest past the temple, uphill in a small hut.
  4. Speak to Darrow, the Coinlord, and he’ll provide you with the Tower Key and the Tea Shop passphrase: “Kardemum Poison.”
  5. Use the key on the old guard tower, which is located back of Darrow’s yard.

Once you’re inside the tower, the bed will be available to you permanently for long rests. All you need to do at this point is to interact with the bed to get your sleep. So be sure to sleep 8-10 hours nightly for optimal results to complete all the side content without rushing.

How to Rest in Esoteric Ebb

Sleeping always advances time by exactly eight hours. As a result, it fully restores your HP, stamina, and spell slots, as well as removes all exhaustion stacks and resets daily abilities. Note that late-night sleep shortens the next day. For example, sleeping at 5 AM means less morning time, so aim for nighttime to maximize the daylight.

Besides the long rests, there are also possibilities for short rests in the game. These are available in specific areas after traps with Snell in City Below or during certain quests. Short rest partially restores HP, depending on the dice rolls, one spell slot, and reduces exhaustion. It’s less time-consuming than long rests, but you can always use the Shards of Jor to retry the failed checks without resting. But be aware of the exhaustion rate:

  • 1+ Exhaustion increases the following penalties: -1 to ability checks, attacks, saves, skill checks, combat risks, and spell reliability.
  • 4-5+ Exhaustion increases the collapse risk, severe debuffs, HP and stamina loss in debates and fights.
  • 48 hrs. without sleep results in instant death.

Lastly, it’s recommended to prepare certain feats that could help alleviate your exhaustion. You can have up to four feats active at the same time. Here are some of the best ones:

  • Visken Feat: Investigate Visken and unlock a feat easing all your sleeping and resting needs.
  • Azgalian Endurance (Constitution): Lose 1 Exhaustion level every three hours.
  • Lone Cleric (Strength): Short rests heal extra HP when your exhaustion level is high.
  • Master Memorizer (Intelligence): Short rests may restore 2 spell slots.
