Crimson Desert: Pet and Animal Companion Guide

Crimson Desert

Crimson Desert features a fun pet system that lets you befriend stray animals, mostly dogs and cats, in towns, and turn them into your loyal companions that will help you quickly loot items from dead enemies. This guide will provide you with tips and tricks on how to tame and summon pets in the game, including their main habitat locations.

How to Unlock and Tame Pet Companions

To build a bond with your pets, you need to create trust through daily interactions with them. Your pet roster is limited to 30 pets, but only one can be active at a time. They don’t have an impact on combat, but will help you loot items and provide companionship. Your summoned pets roam battlefields and pick up nearby loot automatically, and they have no loot filter, so they grab everything they see. Note that stray pets start with zero trust, which you must raise to 100 if you want to tame and claim them. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Reach Hernand, where you can see some stray dogs and cats roaming the streets, especially in the town square or near the bounty board.
  2. If you want to tame a dog, then approach it and hold the interaction prompt for a short animation.
  3. If you want a cat pet, then hold the carry prompt to pick them up first, then pet them while holding.

You can tame no more than five pets a day, with a maximum of 25 trust points per animal per day. Once your trust is high enough, you need to feed them and finally claim them as your pets:

  1. Open your inventory and drop some food on the ground near the animal.
  2. You should see it approach the food and eat it after a few seconds.
  3. You can feed your pets no more than three times a day.
  4. Buy food from grocers, butchers, or find it in Hernand, which has some shops south of the inn.
  5. Once your trust hits 100, interact with the animal and hold the button prompt to select “Take in” or “Register”.

As a result, it’ll join your “Pets” tab in the inventory menu. For building fast trust with your dogs, feed them some Fine Meat, as the quality of food really matters with the dogs, but not as much with cats.

How to Summon and Manage Your Pets

You can find regular types of dogs in most areas, such as Beagle, Boardhound, Brown Dog, White Dog, or Jindo. But rarer types appear only in certain locations, such as Floppy-Eared Bulldog, which appears only in the southern areas of Pywel. Once you’ve tamed a pet, you can summon it by following these steps:

  1. Open your Inventory and select the “Pets” tab.
  2. Choose a pet to summon from the list for it to instantly appear beside you.
  3. If you wish to let go of one of your pets, then choose the “Untie” option.

If you want your pets to look like they belong to an owner, then it would be a good idea to purchase some pet armor for them. Note that this armor is purely cosmetic and it has no stats whatsoever. Here’s how to get it:

  1. Travel to the northeastern part of Pororin Village, also known as Grace Estate, just north of the main village area.
  2. Enter the building with three Shai children to trigger “The Unreachable Village” quest.
  3. Complete the “Authorized Access” quest and retrieve the Relic of Pororin from the giant walking tree.
  4. Once you return the relic to Arkin, you gain permanent entry into the pet armor shop.

Once you’ve purchased some armor, you can equip one head piece and one body piece per pet by dragging it from your inventory onto your pet in the “Pets” tab and pressing the “Equip” button.
