In a turn of events right out of left field, 2K Games has been forced to remove a trailer for wrestling sim WWE 2K16 after including the likeness of prominent games journalist Jeff Gerstmann without permission.
Earlier this week, the publisher hastily removed a video showcasing the upcoming game’s create-a-superstar tools from YouTube after Giant Bomb users on Reddit discovered the appearance of a created grappler who looked just a little too much like the site founder’s WWF No Mercy-playing alter-ego, Dr Tracksuit.
The news soon came to the attention of Gerstmann himself, who was none too pleased, judging by his dig at the series:
Kind of not OK with someone using something similar to my likeness to promote a franchise that has been so terrible for so long.

Shortly after the trailer’s removal, 2K re-uploaded it with a much more generic custom superstar replacing Dr Tracksuit. For a comparison of Gerstmann’s character in real-life and how it appeared in the original video, check out the clips below:
WWE 2K16 is scheduled to release across current and last-gen consoles on October 27.
