Motherland is a brand new update coming to Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. It’s a huge overhaul of the game that will bring a totally new enemy to the island, and present you with a brand new way to play. This is the update that fans have been asking and waiting for ever since the game came out. I honestly think that, had this released with the base game, plus all the other updates we’ve had, the reception would have been something totally different. It changes it from a free-to-play game that looks like a looter shooter into something with more tactics, systems to master, and a lot more fun to be had.
The main new aspect of Motherland is Conquest Mode. This changes the map of Auroa and resets it effectively. A new foe has come and taken the island over, and it’s down to the Ghosts to liberate it. There are bosses in each region, and by taking them down, you’ll free the region and give it back to the Outcasts, those who have been fighting to free Auroa from the beginning. It’s a nice shift in pace from the base game, yet it still feels like you’re going alone, fighting against unstoppable odds.
The new enemy faction in the area is a returning force from previous Ghost Recon games. They add a new element of stealth to the game, requiring you to fight on multiple fronts and ensure that you don’t get completely overwhelmed. There are a tonne of advantages that are coming with tis update, and I can’t wait to play through them all. Ghost Recon: Breakpoint is a phenomenal game, but it’s been missing something ever since it launched. It feels like this update brings everything together in a coherent way and makes all the pieces fit.
I know that Ubisoft dropped the ball with Breakpoint. I wanted this game to be so much more than it was, but after all the updates, it sort of is now. However, we need Motherland to make this into the game it truly deserved to be. After all, without impossible odds, there’s no point in being a Ghost.
