No Man’s Sky Expedition 4: Emergence was a Halloween event that was probably the best Expedition we’ve ever had in No Man’s Sky to date. It’s almost at an end though, and as such, we need to move onto the next one. I’m not expecting something to drop from Hello Games immediately after this Expedition, but the developer really has set the precedent now that this will be the case. I some ways, I’m expecting the fifth Expedition to be lined up already and feature something related to Christmas. However, I’m also willing to give the developers a break and allow them to try to find something new for us all to enjoy, if that’s what they want.
I’m still adamant that there’s an Expedition in No Man’s Sky that’s all about bringing players together for us to uncover. I think that was one of the major points that Hello Games wanted to explore with Expeditions, and we should start to see more of it soon. The only thing is, we have no idea when we’ll see it. I’ve tried to look at what Hello Games has done with Expeditions in the past and come up with a timeline for how they release these, but it never works out that well.
What I can tell you is that I don’t think that we’re due a big new update before the end of the year. I think that Hello Games would be mad to try to push out another big update in addition to a new Expedition, but that’s just the sort of company that it is. It may be that we get some entirely new systems out of the game before 2022 rolls around, but I think it would be much better, and fit the community demand if we got a new Expedition instead.
So to conclude, I can only offer you the hope that there should be a new Expedition by the end of the year. It’ll likely be about coming together and delivering gifts, but those are just guesses on my part. I’m thinking about what other games offer to players at these times, and that’s where my head has gone. Hopefully, I’ll be proven right.
