Ghost Recon Breakpoint Operation Motherland Is Hard As Nails

As you may have been expecting, I’ve been playing quite a lot more of Ghost Recon Breakpoint Operation Motherland. The expansion to the base game is just so massive and tempting that it’s hard to pull myself away from it. While I’ve been playing, I was struck by something that I hadn’t actually clocked until now. The difficulty in Operation Motherland is out of this world, and while it makes sense, it can really surprise you out of nowhere. The game makes you feel pretty damn powerful, but the enemies fight back like there’s no tomorrow when their backs are up against the wall.

The idea with Ghost Recon Breakpoint is that you’re a soldier on an island full of enemies. This is still true in Operation Motherland, it’s just the story that’s slightly different. You’ve got no backup, just you and your squad, and you need to clear out the island of enemies in order to free it. You’ve got a drone, and you can even sync up shots with your teammates to kill enemies from afar. It couldn’t be easier, yet still things can go wrong.

I had a situation last night when I was slowly killing the enemies patroling an area with a helicopter I need to steal for the Outcasts. I was picking enemies off quietly until they noticed, and they called for backup. Never ones to go half measure, two helicopters with soldiers turned up, patroled, found me, and started to gun me down. This forced me and my team into a building within the complex we were assaulting, and things went from bad to worse. The soldiers pinned us down and whittled away at our numbers until I’d died twice and couldn’t be revived anymore.

The whole situation was turned on its head because the enemy decided it was going to destroy me. That’s what games should be like, and I’m not complaining, but I was astounded that a game that gives you this much power could feel like this in practice. It honestly floored me. I think everyone should experience this, so please play it if you haven’t.
