Wordle Clues & Strategy
- Step one in solving Wordle is to analyse its clues. Wordle provides feedback in the form of coloured boxes that appear next to each letter that you guess. Green signifies correct placement within a word while yellow represents presence elsewhere in its form.
- With this feedback, it becomes easier to narrow down the possibilities for the word. For instance, if you guessed “apple” and received a green box for “p”, that indicates it contains it in its second position. However, if instead you guessed “apron” with only yellow boxes for “p” as feedback then that indicates there may be another position it occurs within.
- After reviewing your feedback, using logic and educated guesses you can begin reducing potential words. For instance, if you guessed “apple” but received all white boxes indicating no letters were in their proper positions, you know none of its letters are part of the word. Therefore, any that contain A, P, L, or E can be eliminated as possibilities.
- Wordle is best played when using your knowledge of English as one strategy. Consider common five-letter words and patterns of letters which frequently occur together – for instance, “th” can appear multiple times within English words, as can “ing.” Applying this knowledge when playing Wordle will help make more informed guesses when guessing answers.
- One way to hone your Wordle skills is through regular practice. Over time, as you play more games, your familiarity will grow with English word patterns and common letter combinations. Online Wordle solvers may provide additional assistance by providing potential words based on feedback received during gameplay; however, their use should only be utilised as a last resort.
