The Sinking City Litigation Finally Ends with Frogwares as Sole Publisher

The Sinking City

After a long and grueling legal battle, Frogwares has established itself as the sole publisher of The Sinking City. This development comes with news of an upcoming update that will be applied to the game’s PC version. This means that the update will be applied to the Steam, GOG, Gamesplanet, and Epic Games Store editions of the game.

The legal battle for The Sinking City’s publishing rights was quite troublesome for Frogwares. The Ukrainian studio found itself embroiled in a battle with Nacon that sparked its own controversy in the gaming world. During the legal battle, several factoids came to light such as accusations about Nacon withholding milestone payments, and owing the developer unpaid royalties. Additionally, the game’s Steam version was also an allegedly hacked version that was published against Frogwares’ wishes.

Ultimately, Frogwares will now have the sole ownership of The Sinking City’s publishing. The developer announced that a new version of the game will be distributed along all PC platforms at an unspecified date. This update will include the latest bug fixes alongside the release of a new DLC. More information can be found in Frogwares’ extended statement which was released on X.

It’s important to highlight that old saves will not be compatible with the latest version of The Sinking City. Because of this, you should make sure to dust off and finish the game before updating to the new version. It’s also worth noting that the DLC, dubbed Merciful Madness, will not be compatible with the old version of the game. However, Frogwares will distribute prepared saves that will take you straight to the start of the Merciful Madness quests.

The developer closed down this tumultuous chapter in their history, stating that they are glad to “put this whole thing behind”. Additionally, Frogwares expressed gratitude to the community for their support and patience through this ordeal, adding that The Sinking City will receive further updates.

The Sinking City is currently available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch.
