Still shots and an animated GIF of the upcoming turn-based Star Wars tactics game have been discovered (MP1st), providing a peak at the progress of the as yet untitled game.
EA and Lucasfilm first revealed the game was under development way back in 2022. The project is a collaborative effort between Respawn Entertainment (Apex Legends, Titanfall) and Bit Reactor, a studio filled with industry veterans, including devs involved with the development of the XCOM franchise.
The images were viewable on the portfolio page of an an artist working for Bit Reactor. According to image descriptions on the page, the shots are from a mid-2023 build, which would make them nearly a year and a half old by now. Interestingly, one of the images also shows a title screen mockup with the words Star Wars Bruno in large letters at the top—likely the game’s internal codename, and not the final working title.
The XCOM influence in the shots is undeniable, with many of the images depicting UI elements similar to those found in XCOM, such as the overhead Hit Chance indicator and the lower-third action selector. It’s interesting to see the heavy presence of Mandalorians in all these shots—will the game feature a Mandalorian team, or could it even be an entire game about the mythical warrior culture?
