Life sim inZOI has officially sold 1 million copies in its first week after entering early access, making it KRAFTON’s fastest-selling game.
Released on March 28, inZOI wasted no time climbing the charts. The game hit #1 on Steam’s Global Top Wishlists ahead of launch, then later topped the Top Sellers chart just 40 minutes after entering early access. At the time of writing, inZOI is the 7th-best-selling game on Steam. The game currently sits at an 83% positive rating on Steam, earning the game the ‘Very Positive’ rating label.
Despite being one of the most popular genres on streaming platforms, there hasn’t been a major life sim release since The Sims 4, which came out in 2014. As expected, The Sims fans have been flocking to inZOI, with many praising the game’s customizability as well as its detailed character creator. Life sim fans also see the game’s realistic art direction as a welcome change.
inZOI was subject to some criticism ahead of launch. Just days before release, fans noticed that the recommended minimum hardware specs for PC were based on the assumption that players would be using frame-generation technology. The developers also received some backlash when fans learned the game would be implementing Denuvo DRM at launch. The developers later removed Denuvo ahead of launch.
The game is still in early access, and KRAFTON admits there’s still a lot of work to be done ahead of a full release. Some players have criticized the lack of content and performance issues that have spoiled their experience with the game. Others have complained that the game’s relatively demanding spec requirements make it unplayable on their lower-end or older hardware.
In a live stream the day before launch, inZOI’s development team laid out a roadmap for future updates. The roadmap lays out some of the features and additions the game’s developers are planning for future releases. The game’s first major update drops in May and will implement an adoption system (for when you don’t want your Zois kids to look like their parents), improvements to the character creator, and support for cheat codes. The update will also introduce an official modding kit, which is sure to be a hit among a community known for its very active modding scene.
