Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core: Safe Code for Nibelheim Wonders

FFVII Crisis Core official screenshot

One of the most interesting side quests in Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core is Nibelheim Wonders. The quest tasks players with discovering and solving seven puzzles tied to key locations or phenomena in Nibelheim. These include the red water, the girl in the painting, the special bomb enemies, and more.

However, arguably the biggest head-scratcher is the safe inside Shinra Manor. Unlike with the original Crisis Core, solving the given puzzle to find the FFVII Crisis Core safe code is much easier said than done. Fortunately, knowing the basic directions can make things much easier.

Where is the Shinra Manor safe in FFVII Crisis Core?

The safe in FFVII Crisis Core

Finding the “Laughing Safe” in FFVII Crisis Core is fairly straightforward, as the manor is extremely condensed in Crisis Core compared to FFVII Rebirth. First, go inside Shinra Manor and climb to the second floor. From here, go inside the room in the far northwest corner of the map. The infamous safe is directly opposite the door Zack enters the room from, and opening it will give you the Vital Slash materia. However, you need to find a four-digit code first.

It’s crucial to tackle this mystery as soon as roaming is made available in Nibelheim. Those who know what comes next in the main story will likely remember why this puzzle gets inaccessible if it isn’t completed quickly enough. Yes, it’s a fiery reason.

Where to find the FFVII Crisis Core safe code?

With the Shinra Manor safe’s location established, it’s time to find the four-digit code required to open the safe. Unfortunately, there isn’t one set code every player can enter, since the code is random for every Crisis Core save file. The good news is that finding the digits shouldn’t take too long since they’re all discovered inside the manor.

Digit 1: Books (Knowledge Overflowing)

digit 1

Make your way to the northeast part of Shinra Manor’s top floor. Here, Zack can look through the east door’s keyhole. Take a peek to be faced with a large bookcase. The task is to count the books that are not found on the bookcase’s shelves. Therefore, books can be on top of the bookcase, on the chairs inside the room, or even lying on the floor. The number of books not seated on the shelves is the first digit for the safe.

Digit 2: Monsters (Unwelcome Faces)

digit 2

With the first digit written down somewhere, go back to the Shinra Manor’s ground floor and look through the keyhole of the east door, close to the stairs. Inside, you’ll see multiple floating monsters with pumpkins for heads. Count the number of monsters to find the second digit for the safe.

Digit 3: Care Packages (Tasty Reminders of Home)

digit 3

Go back to the manor’s top floor and walk toward the room with the safe. Instead of entering the room with the safe, continue forward to find another room where you can peek inside. Look through this door’s keyhole to see a seemingly normal room. The task here is to count the number of apple cans and purple apples inside the room, because their combined number is the third digit for the safe.

Digit 4: Chairs (Resting On All Four Feet)

digit 4

With three digits written down, go back to the ground floor where the room with the pumpkin monsters was. Instead of interacting with that room, look through the keyhole of the door connected to the west wall. This one’s the easiest, since you just have to count the number of chairs inside this room to find the fourth and final digit for the safe.
