A previously unknown, mysterious Sonic The Hedgehog game has recently come to light, thanks to the resume of former Silver The Hedgehog voice actor, Pete Capella.
The title of the game is Sonic The Hedgehog: Awakening and appears on the actor’s personal website as a previous project.
Given that Pete Capella voiced Silver The Hedgehog for three years, between 2006 and 2009, it’s safe to suggest that the game was originally scheduled to release, or was at least being worked on during this time period. Since that is over six years ago, it’s also safe to assume that the project has since been cancelled.
This could potentially have been a direct sequel to the 2006 reboot of Sonic The Hedgehog, which was not critically well-received when it initially launched on Xbox 360 and PS3, achieving a low Metacritic score of 46. The game was panned for being broken and buggy, its long load times and bland graphical prowess. These criticisms could well have led to the cancellation of Sonic The Hedgehog: Awakening.
We have reached out to Sega and Pete Capella for more information, so stay tuned to Power Up Gaming for any further developments.
