The godfather of survival horror in gaming is to direct a brand new franchise, it has been announced today.
Bethesda Softworks, best known as the publishers of the Elder Scrolls saga, will develop The Evil Within at its in-house Tango Gameworks studio under the direction of Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, who has more than 20 years’ experience in the industry.
Mikami said: "My team and I are committed to creating an exciting new franchise, providing fans the perfect blend of horror and action."
The Evil Within promises to "embody the meaning of survival horror", with "horrifying anxiety and an intricate story… bring[ing] players to the height of tension."
The game is slated for a 2014 release on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC; as well as on next generation consoles. Further details are set to be unveiled on Monday.
