The creator of the Dead or Alive fighting series has launched a scathing attack on the developers of the latest title in the series.
In a recent interview, Tomonobu Itagaki, who left Japanese gaming company Team Ninja in acrimonious circumstances back in 2008, blasted the move by the studio to make Dead or Alive 5 “more erotic”, and referred to their attempts to “milk loyal players out of [their] money” with erotic DLC as “disgusting”.
He added: “Everybody is a little perverted; even I’m a little perverted. But, it was for that very reason I created DOAX [Dead or Alive Xtreme]; in order to target the people who wanted something a little bit more casual and sexy but at the same time keeping that tone separate from the ‘fighting game’ that is DOA. DOA is now a total mess.”
Itagaki is currently working on upcoming Wii U exclusive, Devil’s Third, for Valhalla Game Studios, but the famously outspoken developer kept his cards close to his chest on that particular title, simply stating that it is “really shaping up to be a fun game”.
Dead or Alive 5, meanwhile, is due to receive a next-gen makeover, with DOA 5: Last Round scheduled for a February 17 release on PC, Xbox One, PS4, PS3 and Xbox 360.
