New Details Emerge on VR Title Star Trek: Bridge Crew via ESRB Rating

A number of new details have today emerged on Ubisoft’s upcoming VR title Star Trek: Bridge Crew, as the ESRB awarded the game an E 10+ rating.

Star Trek: Bridge Crew was originally unveiled at E3 earlier this year, and was developed specifically for virtual reality by Red Storm Entertainment. Players are tasked with exploring an uncharted sector of space known as The Trench, in the hope of locating a suitable new home world for the Vulcan populace. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Star Trek game without the Klingon Empire serving as the primary aggressors; players will come into direct conflict with the race.

The US rating board’s extended summary for its certification sheds further light on some of the “fantasy violence” featured in the title:

“This is a VR strategy simulation game in which players assume the role of an officer aboard the Starship Enterprise. From a first-person perspective, players manipulate bridge controls, complete various missions, and battle other ships in space. Battles depict the exchange of phaser/torpedo fire; when the Enterprise takes damage, officers stumble and cry out briefly. Some hits result in officers being electrocuted or knocked unconscious. Enemy ships explode when defeated.”

Star Trek: Bridge Crew is scheduled to release on March 14, 2017 for PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive – after recently being delayed from a November 2016 release
