Nintendo of America has moved to reassure customers that more stock of its NES Classic Edition is on the way, as the console sold out at most retailers within hours of launching today.
Priced at $59.99, the NES Classic Edition (known as the Nintendo Classic Mini in the UK) is a miniaturised replica of the original NES system, and comes with a replica original controller, 30 pre-installed games, save-states and various display options.
Most online and North American retailers sold out of their initial launch stock of the console within hours of it going on sale earlier; scalpers are now selling the NES Classic Edition for up to ten times its initial retail price on online auction site eBay.
Taking to Twitter, Nintendo acknowledged the supply shortage, and reassured users that more stock is on its way through the holiday season and into the new year:
The Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition system is a hot item, and we are working hard to keep up with consumer demand. 1/3
