Users will need a persistent internet connection to play Nintendo’s upcoming mobile title Super Mario Run, it has been revealed.

An update to the small print on the game’s official website made at some point over the past 48 hours confirms that “internet connectivity [is] required to play.”

The news comes as Nintendo launches its final promotional push for the side-scrolling auto-runner, which releases for iOS devices on December 15. An Android release is expected to follow in 2017.

The price of the full, unlocked game is $9.99 USD, which includes 24 levels and three game modes. A three-level version, meanwhile, will be free to download for all users.

Super Mario Run has retained the same core team as its main series counterparts, with Takashi Tezuka serving as the game’s designer and Shigeru Miyamoto taking on the role of producer.
