No, this isn’t confirmation that Bloodborne is coming to PC, in case you wanted to know. While that is seeming less and less likely to me every day, we do have a mod here that will keep things fresh in the game on PlayStation 4. To be clear, this is a mod, but it’s for the PlayStation 4 version of Bloodborne, no other version. Since no other versions exist, that’s fine for now, but I just wanted to make sure you knew if you’re reading in 2022 and Bloodborne is in fact out on PC.
There it is, The Great One Beast Restored. You can download the mod here. You’re right in thinking that this looks a lot like Darkbeast Paarl, which many have speculated about before. However, this is very much a boss that From Software intended to be in the game at one point. There were assets left in the game, but for whatever reason, they decided not to include it. But that doesn’t mean that modders can’t finish work on it.
The Great One Beast is a towering foe with long hair and a dreadful gaze. As you can see in the trailer, it does utilise electricity and lightning, but can also get up close and personal in a fight.
The mod has been created as so many others have, with painstaking care. When From Software leave assets in a game, they sometimes leave the code that was associated with them as well. As it turns out, this is what happened with The Great One Beast. That’s how the mod author was able to rebuild the fight to be as it was intended by the developers.
As to why this enemy was left out of the game, it’s hard to say. It’s possible that it’s simply too close to Darkbeast Paarl, but it could also be that there simply wasn’t room on the disc. In order to make this game a reasonable size, it makes sense to condense the content. This monster could have been intended for the dungeons that players are still exploring today, but we’ll probably never know. From Software like to keep their intentions a secret, and this one probably will be for years.
